Whirlpool : ECKMF94 Automatic Ice Maker Kit Review

Whirlpool : ECKMF94 Automatic Ice Maker KitMy 13-year old Kenmore 106.xx side-by-side was having problems with the ice maker overflowing into the ice bin (a common problem according to the web). After fiddling with the adjustment screw and cleaning all the contacts with no improvement, it was time to order a new unit. I confirmed on the Whirlpool site that the #ECKMF94 was the replacement for my model. The unit arrived and was exactly the same as the original, with the exception of the size and shape of the on/off arm. Installation took me less than five minutes. There was one 1/4" hexhead screw to remove that locks the unit in place. Two other screws are loosened so that the unit can be lifted up and out. Then you simply unplug the wiring harness. I swapped out the on/off arm with the original (simply pulled out at each end), reinstalled the old, deeper arm, and within a few hours, I had ice again.

Exact "replacement" units for this model from the retailer were well over a hundred dollars, yet this model came with an extra ice bin (all white plastic, not like the photo above) and a new supply valve that I'm saving for future use. This is a really simple replacement job that I think anyone can do. If this one lasts as long as the first unit, it should outlast the refrigerator.

Kenmore Ice Maker Icemaker W10122502 & 2198597 Review

Kenmore Ice Maker Icemaker W10122502 & 2198597I did not receive a mounting bracket, screws or instructions.Luckily, the screws and mounting bracket from my old unit fit flawlessly on the new one and it only took a little fiddling around to figure out how to remove/replace it.The unit is making ice, and I have no complaints there. So I guess the moral of the story is don't bother to pay extra for an exact fit - all of these units seem to be widely used with a variety of mounting hardware.

LG : LK45C CustomCube Automatic Ice Maker Review

LG : LK45C CustomCube Automatic Ice MakerThe ice maker is very nice. It works and works very well. The included instructions didn't seem to match what my fridge had, but it was close enough that I was able to improvise.

The only gripe is that the sound it makes when the water runs to fill is very loud and drives my wife nuts. We're used to the sound of the dropping cubes, but we've never heard another one make this much racket when filling up. It's not a big deal though, once the tray is full, it doesn't fill anymore until it needs to make more cubes.

GE WR30X10093 Refrigerator Icemaker Kit Review

GE WR30X10093 Refrigerator Icemaker KitI was unable to remove and exchange parts from the old unit per the instructions provided. So I installed the new unit as it came with existing parts.Instruction was easy and the unit works fine.I do not understand why directions were to use old parts on the new unit when it works well as is.
